Believe it or not, pretty much EVERYONE tells me this before their session, and it never turns out to be true! I love coaching my clients through having their photos taken, and I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve to make you look fabulous! When you're having a great time, you'll look more beautiful than you thought was possible. I promise! :)
I've put together a complete session preparation guide for my clients that I send before every session. It includes information about clothes, hair/makeup, and other useful tips to help eliminate stress from your experience.
While I don’t work directly with a hair/makeup artist, I’m happy to provide a list of recommendations upon request. Please be sure to allow plenty of extra time in case your appointment runs longer than expected.
I keep a number of backup dates open each month in case of bad weather, and there’s no fee to reschedule to a new date if it’s raining or overcast — in fact, I encourage it! Sunshine is a huge component of my style of photography, and it’s definitely worth waiting for a beautiful day. It will add warmth, dimension, and life to your images!

Boston weather is notoriously unpredictable and changes very quickly, so I typically wait to call off a session until the night before. If you want to follow along with me, I find that the app Dark Sky has the most reliable forecast.

I believe that your photo shoot should not be rushed — I want you to truly enjoy our time together and settle into the experience! The difference in expressions between the beginning and end of the session is truly remarkable. I find that when you have time to settle into the session and get used to the camera and me, we’re able to create more authentic portraits. For these reasons, I only offer full-length branding sessions.
Final image delivery takes four weeks from the date of your session, which includes a week in the middle for you to review your proof gallery. Although it’s not necessary, I recommend reaching out a few months before your desired session date so that I can block off that time in my calendar. That will also give us plenty of time to plan. If needed, sometimes I’m able to accommodate shorter timelines — just ask and we’ll see what we can do!
I schedule headshot sessions on weekdays, usually starting about 3 hours before the listed sunset time. This varies depending on the season.
You’ll find a lot of work with musicians throughout my portfolio because before becoming a photographer, I was a classically-trained flutist. Although I LOVE working with musicians because I relate to them so well, these branding sessions are by no means limited to only musicians! I’ve worked with small business owners, yoga instructors, newscasters, photographers, and even created images for clients who are venturing into the world of online dating. Everyone has a story that needs to be told, and I’m excited to tell yours!
Every proof in your gallery is color-corrected and edited 95% of the way. The 15 images included with your session will be fully retouched at no additional charge. Common fixes included but are not limited to: flyaway hairs, skin smoothing and blemish removal, escaping bra straps, etc. There are few things that I'm NOT able to do in Photoshop, so just let me know if you have any special requests after reviewing your proofs!
Every image is originally photographed in color, but I also provide custom black & white conversions of every image in your order.
I generally shoot at least 10 times the amount of photos guaranteed for your session in order to make sure that we end up with great photos! For your final gallery of 50 images, I'll shoot *at least* 500 frames and then narrow them down later.
I don’t work out of a studio because I love offering the flexibility and creativity that comes with shooting on location. My office space does offer a couple of indoor options with great natural light, but it’s best used as an addition to an outdoor session.
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III and a 50mm lens. Although I own lighting equipment, I strongly prefer working with natural light because it has a very organic feel and it gives us the flexibility to move quickly. It’s also way less intimidating to have your portraits taken if you’re not surrounded by umbrellas with flashes going off in your face. Just sayin’. ;)
I always love photographing headshot sessions in the neighborhood surrounding my office in Fort Point. There's so much texture and interesting architecture in that area, and it also gives you a comfortable space to get dressed and have your hair/makeup done if you'd like.

If you'd prefer more of a natural or classic location instead, I can definitely recommend a few favorite places!

All clients sign an optional model release before the session. If you would prefer to keep your images private, you may indicate your request at that time. For clients who choose to decline the model release, I absolutely respect your decision and will keep your images under lock and key.
YES! After putting so much energy into creating these images together, I hope that you’ll get as much use out of them as possible. Share away! Credit is not necessary but always appreciated.
Images are provided in the highest resolution available from my camera at 300 DPI. The files are not watermarked.
Sure! I love it when my clients bring along a “laugh buddy,” and it’s always fun to grab an extra photo of the two of you together! I don’t recommend bringing your hair stylist or creative director with you, but I welcome any communication before the session so that I can keep special requests in mind as we’re shooting.
I rarely show previews during the session — not because I’m trying to keep a secret or because you look bad, but because I’m trying to keep the energy up and help you stay focused and positive. I’ve found that if we stop too often to review images, it’s easy to get caught up in what you “should” look like, and you’ll start looking tense. I know it takes a lot to trust a stranger with something as personal as portraits, but I promise that I will go above and beyond to make sure you love how you look in your images!

After that, you'll be able to sign your contract and submit your session deposit online. 50% is due upon booking to reserve your date, and the remainder is due on the day of your session.

I also ask new clients to fill out a short questionnaire, which helps me get to know you and your hopes/goals for the session.
