emily & shane, engaged! | boston engagement photographer

Emily and I met long before I became a photographer– 10, 15 years ago maybe? We fell out of touch, but I was so excited to find an email from her asking about engagement photos. She and her fiance are perfect for each other, and they are both Texans through & through. This was the first time I’ve ever done a save-the-date photo with deer antlers and camo šŸ˜‰

I’ll shut up now and leave the storytelling to the two of them!

Together August 18, 2009 ā€¢ Engaged July 8, 2012

How they met, according to Emily: “Shane and I were friends all throughout highschool, having quite a few mutual friends as well, we always ended up at the same parties and gatherings … he was always such a nice guy, but for some reason I never thought of him “like that”! After highschool everyone went their seperate ways and did their own thing and I never really saw him that often. One night we decided to meet up, have a few drinks and “catch up” … it had been about 3 years since we had last seen each other! I was with a few of my friends, so I didn’t take it to seriously, it wasn’t a date, just an old highschool buddy, no big deal … right? WRONG! The second he walked in the bar something felt totally different … it was like a lightbulb went off! Why had I never seen him, I mean REALLY seen him? He was handsome, funny … like really, funny! And even though it had so long since we had seen each other, just being around him felt RIGHT. I will always rememeber it so clearly as one of those “when you know, you KNOW” moments. And I KNEW! šŸ™‚

That night we hung out with my friends, swapped stories, told jokes and just laughed! It was as if three years had never passed, but at the same time, we were both very different people … better people. Ready for something wonderful and mature enough to realize it was happening!

The rest is history … we jumped into a wonderful, crazy, inspiring relationship and three years later we both just feel SO blessed and thankful that God was able to give us the pefect person for each other at the perfect time and we are ready to start the next chapter of our lives!”

How he proposed: As told by Shane: “The first time I realized I wanted to marry Emily was when she first met my nephew, Ty. It made me so excited to see how SHE was excited to be hanging out with this little kid that was such a big part of my life. She was sweet and attentive and I really saw what a wonderful person she is. I knew then that I wanted her in my life forever.

That was the easy part! We were about to go on vacation with my family to Port Aransas and I knew that’s where I wanted to propose to my best friend. I had the perfect setting and the perfect ring…but I was SO nervous! When we arrived in Port A we started unpacking and I thought “it’s now or never” so I asked Emily to go for a walk on the beach with me. She was very suprised, apparently I’m not the most romantic guy and she thought it was kinda weird! šŸ˜‰ We got to the beach and started walking, and in true Emily fashion, she was yapping away saying EVERYTHING I had planned to say to her! So I just reached in my pocket, got down on one knee and asked, “will you marry me?” She looked stunned, started crying and finally got out the word “YES!” The minutes after that are all a blurr. A lot of hugging, kissing, crying and then phone calls to family. We got back to the condo and all my family was there to congratulate us and we spent the first week of our engagement in beautiful Port Aransas, just relaxing, hanging out and being us. It was definitely perfect.”
