As a family photographer in downtown Boston, it’s not often that I have the chance to photograph larger families — I think by the time most people have their second kid, they’ve moved away to the suburbs in search of more square footage, ha! I always love documenting big families though…in fact, I used to think I would have four kids just because I have that much fun photographing them! It’s always a treat to capture all of the different family dynamics, the little moments that I find waiting for me after turning away for a second, and the laughter that seems to become more enthusiastic with more kids. Photographing a family of five always feels a little chaotic in the moment (pretty sure I collapsed into bed immediately after this session!), but the images are all the more dynamic because of that extra energy. I love it.
The gorgeous pink tree pictured here resulted from equal parts planning and pure luck. I checked and double-checked my calendar from past years to try to predict when we would find great blooms (because when you have three girls, you’ve gotta have lots of pink!). We ended up with the perfect flowers, but Mother Nature had the final say with the weather! In the middle of an unpredictable week of sudden showers, we almost postponed but decided to stick it out…and we were rewarded with the most glorious sunshine. Thank goodness!
