Best Locations for Spring Family Photos in Boston

It’s hard to believe that we’re already on the tail end of winter in Boston…although I suppose other places are already calling it spring! I don’t know about y’all, but I’m so ready to say goodbye to my puffy parka and hello to cute spring dresses!

Here’s why spring is the BEST season to have photos taken:

1) The flowers are so colorful and vibrant! The tulips start blooming in the Boston Public Garden in mid-April, followed by cherry blossoms and cheerful flower boxes throughout downtown Boston. After the first wave of spring flowers, roses start to bloom in May/June! We have lots of options!

2) Rather than rushing to have your annual card photos taken right before the holidays, you’ll have plenty of time to design and print your cards! (Spring is especially great for older children who aren’t changing so much from month to month).

3) The temperature is on our side. If we get rained out for our original date, the temperature will be going UP instead of DOWN, so your rescheduled session will still be warm enough for the kids.

4) It’s the perfect excuse to get more use out of those adorable Easter outfits!

5) It’s also PERFECT timing for a Mother’s Day gift (hint hint, Dads!)…guaranteed slam dunk! 😉

Here are my three favorite locations for spring sessions in Boston:

1) Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain

This park is a great option for people who live west of Boston, since you don’t have to worry about driving into the city.

2) Boston Public Garden / Beacon Hill

The Boston Public Garden is such a gem year-round, but it really puts its best foot forward in the spring! The classic Boston tulips start blooming in mid-April, followed by gorgeous cherry blossoms. It’s also easy to combine the BPG with a quick trip to Beacon Hill, where you’ll find lots of colorful flower boxes!

3) Back Bay Fens

This park is located between the MFA and Fenway Park and was designed by the famous landscape architect Frederick Olmsted. In my opinion, it’s the most overlooked natural gem in downtown Boston! It’s a lovely park with lots to photograph, including a gorgeous rose garden that starts to bloom in late spring/early summer. It also has the added bonus of less tourists wandering through the background.

How can I pick the best date for flowers?

I recommend booking a date in late April or early May, and then we can keep an eye on what the flowers are doing this year and choose the best location! You can find my available spring 2020 dates on this page!

Looking forward to photographing your session soon! 🙂
