Most of the time, moms are the ones who reach out to me to set up a photo session for their family. But in this instance, the dad wins major brownie points! He called me to arrange this session as a gift for his wife’s 30th birthday. Their goal for the session? (this made me awww out loud) “We want to remember how happy we are, and share that feeling with our families and friends.” With a beautiful two-year-old and another son on the way, these images captured their last moments as a family of three. And I truly mean LAST moments. At the time of these photos, she was 36 weeks along!
Having recently moved from Paris, France to start a new life in Boston, we planned their session to include some of the places they love to spend time together. I introduced myself to their toddler via a quick game of hide and seek in his oh-so-colorful bedroom, and then we were off to explore their neighborhood. We made our way over to Copley Square for one of my FAVORITE maternity photos of all time, and then ended the session on the (very windy!) Charles River Esplanade. (All of this happened with impeccable European fashion…those heels at 36 weeks? Such a feat!)
Fast forward a month, and their new baby boy made his grand entrance! Not surprisingly, he is just as gorgeous as the rest of his family. I got to meet him at only eight days young when I went to deliver their new framed prints. Even though we had photographed the images just a month prior, it was surreal to place a little piece of history in their hands and see the makings of a brand new family of four, all in one visit. As a photographer, it’s a special moment when you have the chance to experience firsthand the value of moments frozen in time.
